Intel company has brought a surprise announcement of the new senior chipset for the platform LGA1151 – Z390. Earlier it was assumed that this set of system logic will debut simultaneously with the eight-core processors of the Coffee Lake-S, but then information about its output in the third quarter was received. Based on the available information, at the Computex 2018 (June 5-9), the chipmaker will tell in detail about the capabilities of the Z390 chip, while Intel partners from among the motherboard manufacturers will present prototypes of their own solutions LGA1151 / Z390. Serial models of motherboards will appear in retail not earlier than the second half of June.
To date, not all the features of the Intel Z390 are known, since this chipset is not yet available in the ark.intel.com database. Nevertheless, based on the available documentation, a number of conclusions can be drawn. By combining the characteristics of the set of system logic Z390 is similar primarily to the H370. In addition to the latter’s capabilities, the new flagship supports overclocking of the Core i3-8350K, Core i5-8600K and Core i7-8700K processors by increasing the multiplier, as well as an increased number of USB 3.1 channels (from 4 to 6 pcs.), USB 3.0 (from 8 to 10 pcs.) And lines of PCI Express 3.0 (from ≥20 to ≥24).

²— Intel Wireless-AC 9560
Comparing the chipsets Z370 and Z390, it is worth highlighting such features of the “390” as the transition to a thinner production process (14 nm), the presence of integrated USB 3.1 controllers (6 channels) and Wi-Fi / Bluetooth. The integrated Intel Wireless-AC 9560 adapter meets the requirements of the 802.11 Wave 2 standard, which is characterized by a 160 MHz bandwidth and a maximum bandwidth of 1.73 Gbps. For the operation of wireless interfaces, either the motherboard manufacturer or the user must connect the auxiliary IR module in the form of a M.2 2216/2230 card for the M.2 Key E connector. In addition, a 10/100/1000 Mbps wired network is also supported.
Z390 will be a company released earlier chipsets of the 300 series
Below are listed all the features of the Intel Z390 chipset, including support for Intel Rapid Storage (RST) and Smart Sound technologies, and Optane SSDs. Announcements of LGA1151 / Z390 mainboards are unlikely to stay for long – it’s another matter that on the shelves corresponding products will appear not earlier than a month.
